You're Not Alone: Stories of Hope and Help
"I reached out to the helpline because my nephew gets upset and then gets aggressive with my sister. He hits her and leaves bruises on her and I did not know what to dd or how to help my sister. After speaking with the counselor, she gave me different interventions to try with my nephew and sister to help de-escalate him and get him more regulated. I am very happy I reached out and sought help, and now I feel more equip to handle the situation. "
"I am a mother to a 15-year-old daughter and called the National Parent Youth Helpline because I recently discovered inappropriate photos and conversations on my daughter’s phone. The helpline counselor supported me by educating me on the importance of responsive caregiving and commended me on the steps I had taken to contact law enforcement. I really appreciated that the counselor helped me contact child protective services and educated me on how they could be of support. I learned from the call that the exchange of sexual favors or sexual photos can fall under sexual abuse and even human trafficking. The counselor provided me with the resources and support my family needed."
"I am a 27-year-old soon to be father of two. I have no support from family, and I am currently going through relationship issues with my children’s mother. My family gives me bad advice and I do not have a therapist. I found the helpline and I found it very helpful. They helped me to recognize what I was doing wrong in the relationship and provided me with a listening ear that is hard to come by where I am from. I am so thankful, and I will be calling more in the future."
I have been dealing with many life stressors recently and I called the help line to find ways to process these events. I was able to talk to the counselor and explain all the events and how they are impacting my mental health. The counselor gave me different interventions to try and cope with the stress that will help with my overall wellbeing.
"I reached out to the helpline for support as I was recently separated from my wife and was struggling with feelings of being a failure to keep my family together. I have a regular therapist, but it was so helpful to be able to have support between sessions. The counselor listened to me as I processed my emotions and helped me brainstorm ways to focus on things I could control such as creating a comfortable home for myself and my sons. I will continue to use the helpline for support."
"I am a Hispanic father of 4 children and when I enrolled into these groups, I was also enrolled in an in-patient rehabilitation facility to manage my addiction with alcohol. When I do other groups or talk about treatment goals, I often refer to lessons I've learned in Parents Anonymous. I’m proud to have taken that step with the intention of helping my family. That is a big life goal, and I am committed to doing whatever I can."
